CIVIL WAR
S.311. Very nice Civil War Union cavalry sabre, 40 1/2" in overall length with the steel fullered blade being 34" long. The brass handle basket is marked C 7 and the pommel stamped J.C.W. representing the inspector's initials. The leather and wire wrapped grip is in fine and complete condition. The blade was cleaned many years ago and now has a steel gray patina. There is no date or manufacturer's logo on the top of the blade due to the apparent cleaning; however, J.C.W. was a well know Union inspector so the blade had to have been manufacturered between 1862 and 1864. A nice item at a reasonable value..................
